Calverton Air Show Chuck Calabrese has been single handedly developing a
relationship between the promoters of this airshow and our club. He has arranged to have the club benefit
from ticket sales so that we can use this to raise funds for the club as we
encourage people to have an interest in General Aviation. He has sent along the following information… The airshow is going to take place on SEPT 20th and 21st
to celebrate 100 years of flight. It is in Calverton at the Grumman Center.
There are exhibits and demonstrations. Gates open at 9AM and the feature show
begins at 12PM each day. GACE is selling advance tickets. They are two dollars cheaper than
at the door GACE gets to keep three dollars from every ticket sold. Ticket
prices are: ADULT: GATE: $15.00 from GACE: $13.00 CHILD: GATE: $10.00 from GACE: $8.00 Al Klug and I have tickets. Anyone who wants tickets for
themselves or to sell can get in touch with either of us. The
Left Seat Al Klug The July plane wash which was originally scheduled for the 14th was
cancelled because of the forecast weather. I rescheduled it for Wednesday,
July 16th and we had a great turnout. The following members turned out to
wash and wax our fleet and support our club. Mark Goodman, Joe Fontana,
Vinny Termine, John Koch, Ralph DeCarli, Don Hayn, Scott, Debby, Rebeca
and Julianna Posner, Ed Santiago, John Blosser, Tom Klemenko, John, Delia
and Ryan Vahey and myself. After the work was done, Mark Goodman
barbecued some burgers and franks, there were salads and sodas and plenty of
good conversation. The next plane wash is scheduled for August 18th at 5:00
PM. I hope to see you there. Those members who have been attending meetings are aware that we
will be conducting a fund raiser through the sale of tickets to the air show
that is to be held at Calverton (Grumman) September 19, 20, 21. Chuck
Calabrese has been handling all the details and has advised me that the
tickets are now available. Any member in need of tickets can contact me or
Chuck. This is a great opportunity for the club to add funds into our New or
Newer Plane acct. If you or friends and acquaintances plan on attending the
show, purchase the tickets from GACE. I noticed the left seats in our two Skyhawks are getting very
frayed. They will be redone as soon as possible. The work will be done right
at ISP. The next regular meeting will be in September. At that time, the
nominating committee will start accepting names of members wishing to run for
office. Elections to be held in November.

Secretary’s
Corner Rich Raine Some of you let me know the GACE CAM was not updating, as it
should. This occurs every now and
then when a software conflict occurs in the old computer where the CAM
software runs. The only resolve for
this is to reboot (or turn it off then on) the old computer and when
the CAM software comes up minimize the windows frame by clicking on the “-“
in the upper right part of the frame.
We will soon have another computer, I’m told, and when that occurs we
will move the CAM software to it.
This will keep things going better in the future. In the past we have sponsored a GACE Golf Outing at the St.
George Golf Club in Stony Brook.
While this is not of interest for everyone, those that can’t make up
their minds whether to go flying or golfing on a nice day may like to
participate in a club golf outing. We
have had some great times playing golf followed by fun times at the 19th
hole where flying and golf conversations were shared by all. I would love to organize an outing there
again as the course is in great condition.
If you have interest, send me an email and we will find a way to make
this happen while the summer weather remains. Please let me know if you have any concerns or suggestions that
could make this group more responsive to YOU. You can email me by clicking here. Or send regular mail to the office. Phone calls are great too! 631-897-3030. GACE Flyout Rob Terano is organizing the GACE flyout to Orange County
airport. The group will be flying out
to arrive at 9:30am. The plan is to
have breakfast together then fly back to arrive home by noon. So far 6-8 pilots are going. While this newsletter will probably arrive
after the guys have left, Rob has promised to let us know how it went in the
next newsletter. Hopefully there will
be some digital pictures of those daring GACE guys. This really is a great way to fly with someone else and observe
how he makes the flight to contrast it your procedures. All in all it’s a great way to meet new
members, too! We hope this will be the first of a number of club experiences we
can look forward to in the future.
Stand by for details of future missions to come. Meetings There are no regular membership meetings scheduled for this month. Plane Wash Our next plane wash will be Monday, August 18th at
5PM. Please come out to meet our
members and help keep the fleet looking great. Maintenance John Blosser mentioned the seat repairs that will make our
Skyhawks look like they should, as aircraft of the GACE fleet. Also, the windshield for 6PN has been
reseated to resolve the leaks that were found under the pilot’s foot area and
in the instrument area. Also, should you experience a situation that requires outside
maintenance to our aircraft, John asks that you call him directly at 631-912-0290
to work out a plan. |
