Christmas
Party at Timber Point The
annual Christmas Party held at Timber Point Golf Club was the perfect setting
to share some holiday fun and great conversation for the club. Dave
Ferrara took this great opportunity to present Mark Hervan with a
plaque, on behalf of the members, to show our appreciation for his years of
leadership and dedication to the club.
This
was a great time to get to know our members, make new flying arrangements and
talk over flying stories. Doug
Weston organized a 50-50 raffle and Ron Uschok won the pot. Not to let it stop there, Doug felt
benevolent and auctioned off one hour in the aircraft of choice. Ed Hamilton won that. Congratulations to both! The club made some money, we all had fun
and both guys left richer for the experience! The
Left Seat Al Klug I
hope that the new year finds everyone healthy and anxious to fly. The Holiday
Party was a great success and on behalf of the members I would like to thank
all those who made it possible. Hopefully, we’ll have an even greater turnout
in 2003. As
I’m sure you have noticed, the newsletter has a new format to it. Our new
Secretary has put quite a bit of time and energy into it, so, if you like it,
let Rich know when you see him. Or, send him an e-mail. Also, if you have
something that you think would be of interest to the members, send it to Rich
and it will be included as space permits. During
the holidays, I was able to watch some new DVD’s. Of particular interest was
a movie titled “K-19”. Without giving
away the plot, I’ll just say that it is about a Russian nuclear submarine
during the early 1960’s. If you have the opportunity to watch this movie and
are interested in what life was like on a nuclear sub, you can visit one of
our own in New London, CT. Airport to use is GON and the Nautilus Museum is
just a short cab ride. I believe the Nautilus pre-dates the K-19 by about 5
years. With
the year 2003 being the 100th Anniversary of the Wright Brothers first
flight, celebrations will abound especially in the states of North Carolina
and Ohio. AOPA and Avflash websites should have listings & we’ll try to
keep you informed. In NC, events are scheduled throughout the state, not just
at Kill Devil Hill. |

Secretary’s
Corner Rich Raine I’m
thrilled to have this opportunity to contribute something of real value to
this club. For a couple of years I
have had the privilege of being able to fly these terrific airplanes at
incredibility low cost, virtually anytime I wanted, with an absolute minimum
of hassle. Now as a payback, I’m
hoping I can add something that will benefit the club and its members. One
of my efforts, as Secretary, will be to communicate with the membership to be
sure the club is as responsive to the members as we can be. I have found this club to be a wonderful
association of individuals with varied backgrounds and lifestyles. (Just get to know our members and you will
see how diverse we really are.) But,
we have one magical common thread. Each
of us has chosen to spend considerable time and energy to train ourselves to
have the opportunity to climb into an aircraft and soar into the sky while
others are lying on the living room couch.
What an interesting group of guys!
We have banded together as GACE members to contribute our money and
efforts to this club so that each of us can fly as we like in these great
aircraft. The more we get to know
each other, the more we come to think of these aircraft as “ours.” (Which they are) Let’s never allow ourselves to isolate
to the point where we think of this club as an FBO where we can throw the
keys on the table and leave a note, “The windshield was dirty.” The more we share experiences and flights
together the more we will enjoy this club.
My hat is off to Joe Donza who has begun to utilize the
scheduler email list to ask if anyone wants to go flying. What a great idea this is. The potential for taking that flight that
you might otherwise not have made.
The opportunity to make new friends and flying partners just for
taking the time to jot off an email.
I hope to utilize the internet to make it as easy as possible for each
of us to take as much benefit from the club as possible. I
would only ask that each of you let me know anything you might feel would
make this club better than it already is.
I can be most easily be reached at my email address – [email protected] Airport News The
