At Large

Chuck Calabrese

Member-at-Large

Chuck Calabrese has succeeded Mark Hervan as our newest Member-at-Large.

Chuck was responsible for our participation in the Calverton Airshow.  This project, coordinated by Chuck and Al, allowed our members to work together to sell tickets and make a significant return for our club.

He also is a person with many interests.  He is a physician, a certified SCUBA diver and oversees a company in St. James that is a world leader in the cosmetic industry.

The Left Seat                                  Alan Klug

The month of June brought us another new member. Melanie Benson. Please make her feel welcome when you see her at the airport.

The June plane wash was held on the 21st and the following people attended. Bernie Davidson, John Koch, Doug Weston, Tom Klemenko, Donna Boylan, Mark & Jan Goodman, Larry Rachman, Sonny Borowski, John Vahey & Tricia, Ken Wille, Ralph DeCarli, Melanie Benson & Dominic, David Lundquist, Karl Krage, Bill Rudock and myself. We had another 50/50 raffle and David Lundquist walked away with an extra $38 in his pocket. Afterwards, Mark Goodman did his usual fine job on the barbecue. Thanks to all who attended for supporting our club and maintaining our aircraft.

At the June board meeting, it was decided to seat Chuck Calabrese as the new member at large. The entire board looks forward to having Chuck work with us.

Jeff McArthur spoke at the general meeting about such topics as runway incursions, loss of engine on take off, BFR’s and PTS’s for the instrument rating. Attendance at the meeting satisfied the ground work requirements for the BFR. Jeff did a fine job, as all who attended will attest to. Thanks Jeff…….

Jan Goodman asked if it would be possible for the club to run a “Pinch Hitter Class”. It is a possibility. We checked with our insurance company and it is OK. Before we go ahead, we would like to find out how much interest there would be. If your spouse, significant other, etc. would be interested, please get in touch with me with names. We must supply the insurance company with the names of the people taking the class. An email to me is the easiest.

There are no general meetings in July or August, but we do still have plane washes scheduled. The next one being July 19th. As usual, 5:00 PM with a barbecue after. Hope to see you all there.

I just bumped in to Rod Tibbetts at the office and he advised me that he placed 3 headsets in the gray cabinet. They are all in working order and are on indefinite loan to the club. If you are taking guests, feel free to use any of the headsets that are available. Please remember to pull the plugs out, not the wires when you are done. With a little care, club members will be able to use them for years to come. Thanks Rod

Secretary’s Corner                        Rich Raine

I recently returned from a trip to Ireland, actually… yesterday.  Ireland is a place of incredible beauty and extremely friendly people.

I was amazed, though, to find one thing, near to our hearts, missing.  In the ten days I was there, I never once heard the drone of a small aircraft overhead.  You can’t understand how different this is until you experience it.  How many times, do we, as pilots, look up to see what aircraft is flying overhead?  It was eerie to never see a small aircraft during this entire trip.  I found no reason for this but I have to assume it is a combination of regulation and high fuel prices.

It made me realize how lucky we are to have the ability to take to the air in our own aircraft.

Moreover, it makes me think of how great it is to have the access to the aircraft we do through this great club.  What a great opportunity is created by all of us working together, sharing our expenses to make this possible.  Pilot’s are such creative people!

Meetings

Board of Directors meetings are held on the second Monday of the month at 7:00PM.  All members are welcome; however, please check with the President first in order to get on the agenda.

General Membership meetings are the fourth Monday of the month at 7:00PM.  There are no meetings for the summer months of July and August.  The next member’s meeting will be September 27th.

Plane Wash

The next plane wash will be July 19.  A barbecue will follow.  Please come out, meet your fellow members and enjoy some hanger flying and good clean fun!
