First
Plane Wash The dirt and grime that had been deposited on our aircraft over
the winter gave way to the efforts of our members that came out to the first
plane wash of the year. As has now become our tradition, a barbecue was held
afterwards. Judging from the turnout
described below by our president, the event was well attended. This event has become an opportunity for members to do
something that really helps the club, while at the same time gives the
opportunity to meet each other and share aviation adventures. The next plane wash is scheduled for June
21st from 5-7 PM with a barbecue afterwards. We hope to see you all there. The Left Seat Alan Klug At the May board meeting, we accepted David Lundquist as
a member. I’m sure you will all make David feel welcome when you see him
around the airport. We held our 1st plane wash of the year on Monday,
May 17th. The following people attended and helped clean and
maintain the fleet. Mike Alberico, Tony Monaco, Charlie Raymond, Rusty
McKenna, John Blosser, John Koch, Jeff McArthur, Ed Santiago, Donna Boylan
& T.K., Don Hayn, Dan Bednartz, Heinz Gerber, Joe, Nick, and Michael
Turecamo, Doug Weston, James, Justin and Drew Weisberg, Karl Krage, David
Lundquist, Al Zadow, Sonny Borowski and myself. After the work was done,
we enjoyed a barbecue and plenty of good conversation. Special thanks to Donna
Boylan for the cleaning she did in
the office before the plane wash even began, to Jeff McArthur for
making sure we always have clean rags and also to Doug Weston for
doing the cooking in Chef Mark’s absence.
The board decided to try a 50/50 raffle to help defray the plane
wash/barbecue expenses. Due to the generosity of the members attending, it
was a great success. Our expenses were met and the lucky winner (T.K.) walked
off with $55. Last
month, we were expecting a long down time for 6PN. Cessna gave us a waiting
time of up to 60 days or perhaps longer to fabricate the part. After Bob
Shellburg spoke with them on the phone, we had the new part in less than
1 week. Bob & Ron installed the new parts, completed the annual
inspection and the Skylane has been back on line for a few weeks now. I flew
it as soon as it was ready and everything was great. Bob & Ron, thanks
for getting us back on line as quickly as you did. Congratulations to Dan Bednartz upon completion of his
CFI training and the recent passing of his CFI check ride with the FAA. I look forward to seeing Dan’s name added
to our list of club instructors. (Dan
is on the right with his instructor Bob VanSise.) |

Secretary’s Corner Rich Raine Missing any email?
I recently came across this problem.
I have my mail from the club repeated to my cell phone so I can be
immediately aware of someone releasing one the aircraft in the event I’m
waiting for it. I started to receive
the headers for messages on my cell phone that never showed up in my
mailbox. Why was this happening? My mail provider, Verizon utilizes
software to prevent spam. This
software was catching the mail from the aircraft club scheduler due to the
nonstandard mail format. (from Rich
Raine and your club scheduler at http://www.AircraftClubs.com/). The Verizon software would delete this email leaving no trace
that the message was sent. You can
check if this is happening to you by sending yourself an email from the
Aircraft Clubs email site. You should
get it back at your computer almost immediately. If you don’t get it, this is happening to you. I had to change email providers to get
this working again. Tips from TK Tom
Klemenko went to a meeting where engine performance was discussed. He pointed out a tip from the government
publication All About Fuel published the FAA. In this pamphlet they have a heading
called Spark Plug Fouling and How to Avoid It. The following is noted. “After flight or
ground operations, before shutdown, advance the throttle to about 1800 RPM
for 15 to 20 seconds to clear the plugs and combustion chambers, retard the
throttle to about 1200 RPM and shut the engine off immediately with the
mixture control. You should not have
plug fouling or misfiring on your next startup.” Thanks to Tom for bringing this to the club’s
attention. Let’s try to shut down
using this procedure in the future. Meetings Board of Directors meetings are held on the second
Monday of the month at 7:00PM. All
members are welcome; however, please check with the President first in order
to get on the agenda. General
Membership meetings are the fourth Monday of the month at 7:00PM This month’s Meeting is on Monday, June 28th. Jeff McArthur will speak at the June meeting. Subjects
to be covered will include Runway Incursions, Aborted Takeoffs and Jeff will
also discuss the new Practical Test Standards for the instrument rating and
recommendations for BFR’s. It should be an interesting evening, plan on
attending. |
