The Left Seat Alan Klug After the February newsletter was printed, a little further investigation revealed that 12K had her surrounding snow (from the January snow storm) shoveled by Kevin Doolittle. Kevin and Sonny B. also shoveled out the hangar door so that the hangar could be used. Thanks fellows, we appreciate the hard work. I was advised that our old fax/copy machine was all but shot. I then purchased a new all in one (fax/copy/scan/print) and sent out an email asking if somebody had the time & inclination would they please install it. Thanks to Mark Goodman and John Costello, we now have a new and operating all in one machine. I would like to extend my personal “Thank You” to all who participated in the office spruce up
project. (See Office Spruce Up/
February 24th brought another snow storm and I was told that our newest member, Bob Lawson came out to the airport the very next day and shoveled out all 4 of our airplanes. The entire club is grateful for your efforts, especially those of us that flew in the next few days. Thanks Bob. We had an offer of a TV for the office from Mark Goodman. Ron Uschok then volunteered a VCR to go with it. Before these items could be united, however, our latest “Benefactor” brought a brand new TV/DVD/VCR unit into the office. Every member of the club should find this unit very useful, whether working on an advanced rating, brushing up a bit or just watching some entertaining aviation videos. When you see Tom Klemenko around the airport, be sure to say Thanks TK. Before the events of 9/11, I enjoyed taking relatives and out
of town friends on the VFR corridor trip. I probably made that trip 2 or 3
times a year. This past weekend, I got to fly it again, taking my 3
granddaughters with me. And, the wonderful sights to see from an airplane in our local area. GACE History Here’s a photo of a couple of young guys in the club. Can anyone make a guess as to the identities of these dashing nonchalant pilots? Also, what is the building in the background? And if you know the building I guess you could figure out what airport this was taken at in 1970. Can you? Well, I’ll bet the founders can identify these identities because it would be just as easy as looking in the mirror. For the rest of us…… it’s John Pereira and John Brook. |

Secretary’s Corner I wish I had more to report but I have been busy traveling around a bit with my business and feel a little out of touch. The good part is I have been traveling to some pretty nice places. I’m glad we all chose to change our constitution to bring our membership fees more in line with reality. As you all recall, we will be going to a $750 membership fee with $250 to be returned upon a member’s departure. The Constitution needs to be amended as you discussed in the February Members meeting. I put the minutes for that meeting, that were so elegantly transcribed by Chuck Calabrese, on the web where we can all read them if you like. You can click on them at www.egace.com/minutes. Just remember it’s the web address with /minutes added on. I recently stopped by the clubhouse with some time spare and found John Costello, John Koch, and Tom Klemenko there. John Costello treated us to a demo of the new Garmin 480 GPS on CD. We all viewed the CD on TK’s donated combo TV and DVD player. It was a very impressive demo disk, showing a short flight of a Beech King Air and how the new GPS makes the flight much easier. The most impressive thing to me was the pilot in the demo. He looked exactly like John Blosser. If I didn’t know better I would think John took up a second job. If your in the club house, take a look at that video it really shows how automated flying is becoming. The clubhouse sure feels comfortable with its spruce up. If we had some couches in there it would be hard to go home. With the addition of a hotplate, it wouldn’t be unusual to find members down on their luck living there. I know the GACE CAM has been on and off recently. I think the remedy is to run it off a separate computer. I just happen to have one and will get it by the office sooner or later. That should make every thing more stable. We going to have so much computing power in that office, when we turn things on the rotating beacon on the tower will slow down. We sure are setting up for some great flying times as the Spring and Summer unfolds. Office Spruce up On February 19th, 6 members including myself participated in the office painting project. It was truly a club spirited effort. Don Hayn put a lot of painstaking effort into the bathroom grouting portion of the project. Karl Krage installed new electrical outlets, switches, and face plates. Steve Kallinikes helped in all phases including a trip to Home Depot. John Costello was a big help all around, including a trip to Dunkin Donuts and Kevin Doolittle was great with the brush. Thanks guys for making the project an enjoyable one, I know I made some new club friends. First Solo Congratulations are in order for Melanie Benson. She completed her first solo on February 15th. What a terrific experience that must have been. I’m sure we can all remember that first time ourselves. Sonny Borowski was her instructor. A great achievement for both! Meetings Board of Directors meetings are held on the second Monday of the month at 7:00PM. All members are welcome; however, please check with the President first in order to get on the agenda. General Membership meetings are the fourth Monday of the month at 7:00PM. There are no meetings for the summer months of July and August. The next member’s meeting will be on Monday, March 28th. |
