Elections Election
for Vice President was held at our last meeting. Rob Terano prevailed over Tom Klemenko by a tight
margin. John Costello who had
the ballots prepared ready for distribution at the meeting handled the voting
efficiently. John Blosser
acted as witness to the counting and overseer of the of the election
results. We
welcome Rob to the board and look forward to his contributions. Tom, who has always supported the club
with his never ending energy and great ideas gallantly wished Rob his best
and vowed to help him in anyway he could going forward. We all appreciate everyone’s willingness
to pitch in. Participation from the
membership like this will keep our club vibrant. The
Left Seat Al Klug First
of all, I must apologize for missing the events at the end of April. BUT,
I had the opportunity to go to England and I just couldn’t pass it up. I feel
confident that all will go smoothly. Dave Ferrara conducting the meeting in
my absence. Also Dave’s last night as Vice President. Stephanie
Monaco our rising aviatrix promised to grill some “Gourmet Burgers and
Franks” weather permitting, after the plane wash. I hope the weather was
cooperative. The
club welcomes another new member this month, Joe Turecamo. Don’t
forget to say hi when you see him around the club. You might recognize his
voice when you talk to center. We
went to the Cradle of Aviation Museum at Mitchell Field recently and I must
say, it is really worth a visit. Also, the Leroy R & Rose W Grumman IMAX
Theatre. The show we saw was titled
Magic of Flight. If you have the opportunity, do it. It’s like being in the
cockpit of an F18 and flying with the Blue Angels. Nothing short of
spectacular. For
May, I have scheduled the plane wash for Monday, May 19th at 5:00 PM.
The general membership meeting will follow immediately after at 7:00 PM. The
reason for the change being Memorial Day is the 4th Monday of the month. We’ll try combining 2 events into 1 for
this month. Finally,
Congratulations to Rob Terano.
I look forward to working with you, as I’m sure the rest of the board
does. Maintenance John
Blosser would like to remind all of the need to consider some
basics. Early summer brings some
pretty gusty conditions. During your
pre-flight be sure to firmly close the aircraft doors. If they are left slightly ajar they can
swing against the stops with fairly strong force which may distort the frames
leading to all kinds of problems. Also,
should you experience a situation that requires outside maintenance to our
aircraft, John asks that you call him directly at 631-912-0290 to work out a
plan. |

Secretary’s
Corner Rich Raine I
hope you are finding it convenient to read our newsletter on the
internet. I would like to include
more pictures in future issues. I
suspect our President may be submitting more pictures in the future too. Al recently let me know he has acquired a
high-end digital camera. Perhaps he
will be illustrating some of the varied destinations he has written about
over the years. I
will post these pictures as thumbnails here in the newsletter. If you are on the internet you will be
able to click on the thumbnail and see a full size picture. This is one more benefit the email version
of our newsletter will have over the hard paper copy we distribute in your
statement. In
the future we will send you an email link when the newsletter is published
advising you of its publication.
Ultimately, we could save the time and money of producing the hard
copy if we all could read it on the internet. Remember, we have a member’s computer in the office for all to
use. Also, if you have any questions
about using the computer, please let me know and I will personally make sure you
are as up to speed on it as you wish to be.
For a pilot, the information available online is endless and
invaluable. Please
let me know if you would feel comfortable moving more in this is
direction. You can email me by
clicking here. Or send regular mail to the office. Phone calls are great too! 631-897-3030. Meetings Our
last meeting included a presentation from two ladies from the
Ninety-Nines. The Ninety‑Nines,
a woman’s national flying organization was started here on Long Island at the
Green Acres Field, now the Green Acres Shopping Center. They are sponsoring the coming weekend’s
spot landing contest at Brookhaven as a fund raising event. The ladies brought a video player and
showed videos of the last year’s event held at Brookhaven. You had to see the landing attempts to
understand the varieties of landings that are possible in the aircraft we
fly. The
Board of Directors meetings are on the second Monday of the month at 7:00PM. All members are welcome; however, please
check with the president first in order to get on the agenda. General Membership meetings are the fourth
Monday of the month at 7:00PM. This
month’s meeting is on Monday, May 19th.
This is one week earlier than normal due to Memorial Day. We will be combining this meeting with the
plane wash, which will start at 5:00pm. Plane Wash We
had to cancel the last plane was due to weather. Heavy winds 25G35 and rain made it no place to think about
washing our fleet. John Blosser and I
attempted to give 6PN a cleaning by flying a series of practice approaches in
those challenging conditions.
Perhaps, we should have soaped up the aircraft before take off and let
nature due it work. At
the meeting we came up with an alternative date for the next wash. All agreed the best date is the current
wash scheduled for Monday, May 19th at 5:00pm. The aircraft really need
washing so we would appreciate everyone coming out to lend a hand. We will have a bar-b-que afterward. It will be a great event for club
camaraderie and may even allow some of us to book a couple of hours of night
flying in the newly cleaned aircraft.
See you there. |
