The Left Seat Alan Klug I hope an enjoyable summer was had by all. With all the rain we
had, I’m sure those with an instrument rating really appreciated it this
year. For those without, maybe it’s
something you might want to work on. Due to the excitement of having just returned from If you take a quick glance around this month’s newsletter, you
will notice Vice President Rob Terano’s name has been replaced with
that of Sonny Borowski. This change was decided upon at the last board
meeting. Rob has been home for a short time and has been instructing but
unfortunately (for us) will be leaving again shortly. He also found time for
an Angel Flight and made the plane wash with his two children. Sonny has promised he will try to take up where Rob left off.
Hopefully, with a fly out in the near future. Sonny is also working on the
“Pinch Hitter” training I mentioned in a previous newsletter. So far, only 3
people have shown interest, but we will try to accommodate them. The offer
still stands. Spouses, significant others, etc. that frequently fly with you.
If they are interested, send me an email with names. The August plane wash was held on the 23rd and the
following people came by to wash, wax, vacuum and otherwise maintain our
fleet; Bob VanSise, John Costello, John Koch, Tony Monaco, Charlie
Raymond, James Dexter, Sonny Borowski, Dan Bednartz, Kevin Doolittle, Warren
Miller, Bernie Davidson, Rob, Robert & Reanna Terano, Mike Alberico &
Brittany & Shane,…..Ed, Tina & Marissa Santiago, (Marissa, about
2 years old I believe, already knows which airplane is her dads favorite as
she headed right for N2112K as soon
as she passed through the gate) Mark Goodman, Doug Weston, Neil Gmoser,
Tom Klemenko, Al Zadow & myself. A barbecue was held afterward with
Chef Mark back at he grill and plenty of good old fashioned hangar
flying. During the barbecue, we held
a 50/50 as has become the custom. Tina Santiago was asked to pick the
winning ticket. What a swell birthday present, Thanks Tina. The next plane wash will be on Monday, September 20th
at Thoughts to keep in mind. Elections will be coming in
November. As soon as I have confirmed
a nominating committee, I will let you know. If you plan on running for
office, you must submit your name to the nominating committee by the general
meeting in October. We hope to have a
holiday party in December but as of right now the location is undecided.
Timber Point is, of course, in contention but if you have other suggestions,
please feel free to contact the board with them or speak up at a meeting, we
welcome your input. One last item that you might enjoy. As you are probably aware,
TFR’s have been in place since the start of the Republican National
Convention in NYC. On Sunday, August 29, I rode in to Floyd Bennet Field to
watch a friend fly his radio controlled model airplanes. He is a member of a
club that has an airport for model airplanes inside the old base. To our
surprise, the TFR’s extend to model airplanes also. They were told that
flying would not be permitted for the duration of the RNC. Strictly
enforced. |
