Congratulations to Sonny Borowski for completing his Flight Instructor training. Sonny is the latest member to pass both check rides. I hope to see his name on the list of club instructors real soon. In the mean time, I know Sonny is always looking for somebody to fly with. If you want company, give him a call.

One of our newer members, Bob Johansen, is also a pilot for the Long Island Sky Typers. Bob has advised me that if there was enough interest, the possibility exists that we could fly the back seat in his company’s a/c. They would be flown war bird style and we could do some of the flying ourselves. Bear in mind that it costs about $100 per hour to operate our Skylane. Expect the hourly rate to be substantially higher for a vintage airplane. I have mentioned this to pilots around the club house and there is interest but before I commit to asking for a meeting with Bob’s boss, I need to know exactly how much interest there is. So, if you think you would like to do this, contact ME. E-mail or telephone.

Bob has also made up checklists for the Skylane and Skyhawks in a kneeboard format. I will make them available at the next meeting. They can be plastic coated and will last forever and are easily copied. Thanks Bob.

The August plane wash was held on the 18th at 5PM and the following people showed up to keep our fleet looking great; Al Zadow,TK & Donna, John Costello, Bob Johansen, Charlie Raymond, Scott and Rebecca Posner, Past President Mark Hervan with Emily and Matt: Rob, Robert and Reanna Terano, Mike Alberico, Jan & Mark Goodman, Rich Raine, John Koch, Jeff McArthur, James Dexter, Lou Addessi and myself. As usual, Mark Goodman did a fine job at the barbecue while the rest of us had plenty of time for some hangar talk. Thanks again Mark. And thanks to all who attended. The next plane wash is scheduled for Sept. 15th 5-7 PM

I received a letter from the Transportation Security Administration about another meeting this month. I plan on sending a couple delegates from the club and they will make a report to the members at the September meeting. (9/22)

I have asked John Costello and John Koch to be the nominating committee. If you plan on running for office, you must get in touch with one of them to submit your name. This should be done sometime in Sept. or Oct.

Lastly, with the Air Show drawing closer, ticket sales have started to improve. Three dollars from each ticket goes directly to our club. Contact me or Chuck Calabrese for tickets. Just remember that whatever tickets you don’t sell must be returned to me or Chuck by the 10th of September or you will be billed for them.

Secretary’s Corner             Rich Raine

The GACE Golf Outing at the St. George Golf Club in Stony Brook has sparked the interest in a number of our members.  I hope to be able to set a weekend date for the outing and let those interested know shortly.  If anyone else would like to participate contact me asap.

Please let me know if you have any concerns or suggestions that could make this group more responsive to YOU.  You can email me by clicking here.  Or send regular mail to the office.  Phone calls are great too!  631-897-3030.

GACE Flyout

Rob Terano is organizing another GACE flyout to Sky Acres airport.  The group will be flying out on Saturday morning, Sep. 6th to arrive on at 9:30am.  The plan is to have breakfast together then fly back to arrive home by noon.  It’s not to late to come along on this adventure.  Give Rob a call.

Meetings

We begin our fall members meetings starting Monday September 22.   Please put this date on your calendars so we will have a good turn out.   There is much to be discussed including new officers nominations.  If you have interest in running, please let one of the nominating committee members mentioned earlier know of your desire.

Plane Wash

Our next plane wash will be Monday, September 15th at 5PM.  Please come out to meet our members and help keep the fleet looking great.

Just look at the fun we are all having at the bar-b-que afterwards with Chef Mark.

One side benefit of the thorough cleaning these planes get is the recovery of long lost items.

Tom Klemenko’s sweetheart, Donna found Dave Aker’s logbook hidden between the rear seats in 9SF.   Thanks to Donna’s thorough cleaning, Dave recovered this precious item.  Can you imagine the relief Dave must have felt to recover this?

We can only imagine how neat and clean Donna’s house must be.  Thanks again for your efforts Donna.
