The Left Seat                         Al Klug

I understand that the representatives from the 99’s made a fine presentation at our April meeting. Several members had planned on participating if the event was Saturday but because of IFR conditions, it was changed to Sunday. We still had 4 members participate. Rob Terano and Mark Goodman flew N5928E and Rod Tibbet and John Costello went in Rod’s a/c. Mark Goodman took 2nd place in the event, winning a nice new headset for his efforts. Rod Tibbet had been holding down 3rd place but got nosed out at the end of the event. Our club made a fine showing and hopefully we can get more participants in the future.

As you enter the office, you can’t help but notice the latest addition from Ed Santiago. Ed has pieced together NY and Washington sectionals and a NY TCA chart and framed and hung them for the club. Besides being functional, it is also a beautiful addition to the club house. When you see Ed let him know what a great job he did. Thanks Again Ed. That is another fine job you did for the club.

As I write this, the only really nice day in recent memory was May 19th. The turnout for the plane wash/barbecue/meeting was terrific. James Dexter, Joe Turecamo, Anthony Marro, Rich Raine and his wife, John Costello, Ralph DeCarli, Lou Addessi, Ed Santiago, Jeff McArthur, “Smokin” Joe Fontana, Sonny Barowski, Don Hayn, John Koch, Frank Savona, John Blosser, Tony Monaco, T.K. & Donna B., Mike & Tony Alberico, Mark & Jan Goodman, one of the 99’s who happened to be driving by and saw the activity and myself. After all 4 airplanes were washed, waxed and had their interiors cleaned, Mark Goodman prepared franks and burgers on the grill. There were salads and sodas and even cake. Plenty of socializing and then a short meeting .

To all those attending, “Job well done”.

Every now and then some piece of information is brought to my attention that temporarily gets side tracked for a later date. (Mostly because I forgot where I laid it) But I would like to share this with you from Freddie Albright’s mom.  Frederick J Albright is not only a 3rd generation aviator, but also a 3rd generation GACE member. (Grandfather, father and now Freddie.) He has been going to school, (I believe Embry Riddle) has achieved his Private Pilot License and is now home for the summer.  I hope we see you around the airport.

For the month of June, I have scheduled the plane wash for Monday the 16th from 5PM to 7PM.  I hope to see everyone there. Also, the general meeting which will be June 23rd will be the last general meeting until September. Know what is happening in the club. Attend the meeting.

Secretary’s Corner              Rich Raine

I sent out a poll to determine the speed of the group’s internet connection.  I was amazed to realize most of us use a fast connection.  The purpose of the question was to determine if we could put pictures and other large data sources on the website without causing problems downloading.  Thanks so much for the feedback.  I must tell you virtually everyone single person replied.  I will compile a list of the results and sent it to each of you that replied in case you are interested.

Incidentally, a while back Lori and I sat in 12K pondering the old pilot’s question, “So, where would you like to go?”  We decided to check out Goodspeed Airport.  When we arrived at 42B and paid our landing fee of $3, Kathleen, who collects the landing fees mentioned a new Italian restaurant had opened in town.  It struck us as a perfect place to check out.

It is called La Vita Gustosa Restaurant.  We were really pleasantly surprised.  The food is great and the setting is perfect.  Because they are new and trying to build their business, the pricing is very reasonable for quality Italian restaurant.  I would urge anyone that faces the dilemma of where to go for a quick flight consider a half hour jaunt to Goodspeed Airport (42B).  Be sure you are comfortable with short field technique as the field is 2120’.  For those that have been to the town, you will recall it is a very pretty place to walk around after your meal.

Meetings

The Board of Directors meetings are on the second Monday of the month at 7:00PM.  All members are welcome; however, please check with the president first in order to get on the agenda.  General Membership meetings are the fourth Monday of the month at 7:00PM.

This month’s meeting is on Monday, June 23rd.  This will be the last general meeting and opportunity to meet with the membership until September.  Nonetheless we will keep you informed with the Newsletter and email.  Gosh, aren’t you sad?

Plane Wash

The next plane wash is scheduled for Monday, June 16th at 5:00pm.
